Day 3: Petra – Wadi Rum

One of Jordan’s most fascinating sites is Petra. One of the seven wonders of the world, Petra is awe-inspiring in terms
of its design. More than 2000 years ago, the Nabatean people built the city. You will enter the city by passing through
the Siq, a 1.2 km long canyon with mountains that reach heights of 100 m.
The first thing you’ll notice is a stunning view of El Khazneh, the city’s treasury. At first, archaeologists believed that
this was a location for the Nabatean people’s gold and treasury. However, it was actually the burial place for the 13
most remarkable Nabatean kings.
The facade, which was constructed in the first century before Christ, is about 45m high and 30m wide. It is thought to
have served as a temple in the past.
In addition to many other parts of Petra that are virtually impossible to see in a week’s stay, the monastery needs to
be mentioned. You must ascend roughly 800 steps to reach the impressive structure. Nevertheless, there is a lot to
learn about and to see in Petra.
In the late afternoon we will drive to Wadi Rum Jordan’s largest desert and one of the most spectacular desert
landscapes in the world. Tonight you will enjoy traditional dinner and have your overnight in the Camp.
